How is our Bio Matcha Tea from Japan doing in comparison with Chinese powdered teas? Check our latest comparative tests from June 2021.

Dearest fans of matcha tea,

For more than nine years, we’ve been informing you regularly about matcha tea and if you’ve been following us for some time, you know that regular testing of our tea is an integral part of our business.

We pay close attention to the quality of our products and you can be sure that we would never sell you anything we ourselves would not consume. We stand by the high quality of our products and we believe you are satisfied with our products.

Besides testing our own products, we sometimes take a closer look at those matcha teas that do not come from our suppliers and we make some comparisons.

Well-read Matcha Tea fans already know we do not recognize any other types of matcha than those that have Japan as their country of origin. We are often criticised for that but we will not ease up and no one will take this opinion away from us. Milled tea from another country is powdered tea to us, not matcha. We often use comparison with Champagne – which also comes only from the Champagne area in France and other sparkling wines from other areas cannot use the name champagne.

It is a great pity that the benevolence of Japanese tea producers resulted in not having the word “matcha” protected, but on the other hand, it could be the reason why Japanese growers of matcha dedicate more care to their tea.

In today’s article, we took a closer look at our teas but also the powdered teas from China, and we had all of them analysed. Understandably, we will not reveal the powdered tea brands but we are happy to share with you the results.

We were testing

Bio Matcha Tea Harmony, Premium, Chef, Imperial

and

two types of powdered teas from China

Detailed results

Bio Matcha Tea Harmony – yeast, mould, heavy metals – pesticides

Bio Matcha Tea Imperial – yeast, mould, heavy metalspesticides

Bio Matcha Tea Premiumyeast, mould, heavy metals – pesticides

Bio Matcha Tea Chef yeast, mould, heavy metalspesticides

Powdered tea from China A1 – yeast, mould, heavy metalspesticides

Powdered tea from China Z1 – yeast, mould, heavy metals – pesticides

For better overview, we put the basic measured values into the table above and you can make out the picture yourself. Especially the A1 type is worth mentioning, as the value 5,06 mg/kg in chromium is very high and the mould levels are also alarming.

“What more should we say? Once again, we convinced ourselves that the quality of Japanese tea is much higher and the results once again confirmed us in buying ONLY THE ORIGINAL Japanese matcha tea.”

says Petr Patočka,,
managing director of Kyosun company,
owner of Matcha Tea brand.
